General Information

The Boys and Girls Club of San Antonio STEM program offers youth to participate in a variety of activities to expose them to areas in energy and electricity by building circuits and how this relates to them on a daily basis. A popular session with our members is coding. Our members are taught to code up to two characters for a video game and create a screen saver. Some of the resources used to introduce coding is “Move the Turtle” and “Scratch” with micro bits. Our young members are also taught how to use Tinker cad to design their own 3D prints. Other activities introduced are robotics, where they compete in the First Lego Robotics competition. Last year our youth accepted 1st Place and this year they accepted 3rd Place among 23 other San Antonio area schools. Our older members build their own underwater robots in which they compete against each clubhouse. And, lastly, our young members are exposed to outdoor education where they explore local hiking trails in our city.  They document various animals and insects in a local area, sharing their findings with scientists as they upload their animal or insect into and mobile application that is then identified by a scientist.
