Description:

You’ve seen them flying all around…You’ve heard them chirping and singing…

Have you ever wondered what kind of bird is that??  Don’t miss out on the fun!
Whether you’re just starting out or simply need a little coaching, if you’ve ever wanted to know more about birds and the fun of bird watching, why not check out our “Beginning Birding” series of guided hikes? 8:00AM – 11AM. No pets please!

These programs are intended for young folks and will answer all your questions about the fun and excitement of bird watching; including basics on the use of Binoculars and Bird Field Guides. BYO binoculars and Field Guides if you have them or let us know if you’ll need one.

Wear sturdy shoes, hat, sunscreen, and bring at least one liter of water per person; Group size limited to no more than 20 people; participants under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Meet at the rainwater collection towers. Registration/reservations required.

Reserve your spot at https://friendsofgovernmentcanyon.org/events/

Registration opens on Saturday two weeks prior to the event and closes at noon the Thursday before the event. Sorry, no group registrations.

Though the hike is free, entrance fees to the Natural Area do apply. Plan to arrive early as Saturday mornings can be very busy. The Natural Area’s front gates open at 7AM and the program begins promptly at 8AM. Meet at the rainwater harvesting tower at the Visitor Center.

To save time at the Fee Booth and ensure entrance on crowded days, please reserve your Day Pass here: https://texasstateparks.reserveamerica.com/camping/government-canyon-state-natural-area/r/deDetails.do?contractCode=TX&parkId=1200058
