Description:

A special hike just for women!

New to hiking? Like going in groups? This is a special WOMEN'S ONLY hike, guided, and paced so we can "stop and smell the mesquite." 10AM – Noon. We’ll be hiking to Bluff Spurs, approximately 4 miles in length with a fair amount of elevation gain over rocky, rugged terrain. The hike leads to an amazing overlook where you can get a real sense of the canyon that is our namesake --and marvel at the wild places to be found in America's seventh largest city. We will go slowly, savoring the day, and sharing hiking tips along the way.

Open to ages 13 and older; minors must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. No pets please. Meet in Parking Lot C. Dress for hiking outdoors; sunscreen and hat recommended. Wear sturdy footwear appropriate for rough trails; bring one (1) liter of water PER PERSON and a snack if you like.

Reservations required! Reserve your spot at https://friendsofgovernmentcanyon.org/events/

Registration opens on Saturday two weeks prior to the event and closes at noon the Thursday before the event. Group size for this hike is limited to the first 11 individuals who register.

Though the program is free, entrance fees to the Natural Area do apply. Plan to arrive early as mornings can be very busy. The Natural Area’s front gates open at 7AM; plan to meet the group in Parking Lot C and ready to go no later than 9:30AM.; the hike starts promptly at 10:00AM.

To ensure entrance and save time at the Fee Booth, please reserve and PRINT OUT your Day Pass by going to:  https://texasstateparks.reserveamerica.com/camping/government-canyon-state-natural-area/r/deDetails.do?contractCode=TX&parkId=1200058
