Description:

Experience the beauty of Honey Creek!

**Updated Saturday 11/28:

The hike on Saturday 12/5 has 2 open spaces left.

All remaining hikes for December are currently full. We will update here if spaces become available.

There is no hike on Saturday 12/19 as the entire park is closed that weekend for a public hunt.**

Join us for a guided walk to the beautiful Honey Creek to learn about the natural and cultural history of the area. This event is sponsored by the Friends of Guadalupe River State Park/Honey Creek State Natural Area.

Each hike is limited to 10 people, and registration is required.

Hike registration is allowed up to 1 month in advance.

To register, please email Ranger Holly at holly.platz@tpwd.texas.gov . In your email, please include:

  • The date and time of the program you wish to register for.
  • The total number in your party, including infants. We are following strict COVID-19 protocols so it is essential that we have an accurate headcount.
  • A phone number where you can be reached in case of any cancellations (weather, illness, etc.). Text message ability preferred.

**If for any reason you have registered and are unable to attend, please let us know as soon as possible so that we are able to accommodate another reservation request for this very limited number hike.**

COVID-19 considerations: If you have experienced any COVID-19 symptoms, or if you have been in close contact with anyone presumed to have, or tested positive for COVID-19, please do not attend this hike. Bring your face covering, as it will be required during the hike introduction, and if you go inside the building to use the restroom. During the hike itself, masks are highly recommended, but not required. We also suggest you bring your own hand sanitizer to have handy. All attendees and guides will be expected to practice physical distancing guidelines.

Who: The whole family! All ages welcome. No dogs are allowed in Honey Creek State Natural Area, including on the hike.

What to Bring: Bring drinking water, wear good walking shoes, and dress for the weather. Long pants and close-toed shoes are recommended. Cameras and binoculars are welcome.

Know before you go: This moderate hike is about 2 miles, with a steep but short hill. Trail is rocky with a slope in some areas, and level in others.

Meet: Meet the Rust House (inside the park) at 9:00 am.

Cost/registration: This hike is free with park admission of $7 per person ages 13 and over , (kids 12 and under are always free!). We ask for a suggested donation of $2 per person to the Friends Group -- there is a donation box outside the Rust House.

Important! Depending on the season, the park sometimes sells out of Day Pass reservations days or weeks in advance, so please reserve your park Day Pass reservation online ahead of time, before making your Honey Creek hike reservation. You can do this up to 30 days in advance with your credit card, or for free with your Annual Texas State Park Pass. Check availability and reserve a Day Pass online here.

Ask us! We want our programs to be a fun outdoor experience for all. If there's anything we can do to help, please ask, either via email or phone, or at the time of the program.
