Description:

Calling all Naturalists!!

Mark your calendars now and get ready for some photographic fun and the opportunity to contribute to community science! Pollinators and the plants that rely on them are a critical foundation for our native ecosystems and food supply.

From October 7-23, 2022 we’re celebrating the bees, butterflies, moths, beetles, birds, bats, and other animals that serve as pollinators. Your observations can help us learn more about these organisms and help us manage their habitats and populations for future generations. This iNaturalist project will focus on Texas animal pollinators and the plants they pollinate.

Take part in photo challenges, learn informative pollinator tips, explore how-to videos, discover useful resources and more!

Join the fun:

  • Post your pollinator photos during the event to your own Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook accounts (use #txpollinators).
  • All ages and abilities are encouraged to find pollinators and nectar-producing plants and take photos to share with friends!
  • Add pollinator and flowering plant photos to iNaturalist during the event dates to be included in the 2022 Texas Pollinator BioBlitz iNaturalist project

Pollinators can be difficult to identify, so observers are encouraged to post what they know, which may be a simple description of the species or its behavior. To take part in citizen science, participants can post a photo and more details on iNaturalist (view past year's data in 2021 Texas Pollinator BioBlitz project), which records the date and location of the observation and allows other naturalists to help with identification.
